As the Sacred Valley, or Urubamba Valley, is a vast expanse with numerous archaeological sites dating back to the time of the Incas, one day is insufficient to fully appreciate its highlights. That's why we offer two options to explore it thoroughly. Both tours begin at 7:00 am at your hotel in Cusco.
In this option, we start by visiting Chinchero, a charming colonial town boasting an XVII century Catholic church and abundant Incan ruins. Next, we proceed to Maras salt ponds, historically vital for supplying salt to Cusco and other settlements in the Urubamba Valley, including Machu Picchu. Today, locals continue the tradition of hand-harvesting salt, as practiced by the Incas centuries ago.
Our journey then takes us to Moray, a unique Incan agricultural testing site where terraces were constructed in concentric circles to create various microclimates. This experimentation led to the cultivation of over 3000 varieties of potatoes in modern-day Peru.
Lastly, we explore Ollantaytambo, renowned for its Temple of the Sun, constructed with granite boulders transported from a distance of 5 miles. Our adventure concludes with a 3:37 pm departure aboard the Vistadome train, with panoramic windows, to Machu Picchu Pueblo.
Guided Tour At Machu Picchu - Cusco.
The most anticipated day has arrived: Machu Picchu day. We rise early for breakfast at the hotel before heading to the bus station. A 25-minute bus ride takes us to the sacred Inca city of Machu Picchu. Witnessing this marvel is truly awe-inspiring; we capture the moment with an epic photo against the backdrop of Machu Picchu.
Our private guide leads the tour, providing insights into the site's history and significance. After exploring Machu Picchu, we return by bus to Machu Picchu Pueblo. If you've booked a ticket to hike Wayna Picchu mountain, it's done before the tour based on availability. Otherwise, Machu Picchu Montaña is an alternative.
In the afternoon, we take the bus from Machu Picchu back to Aguas Calientes. From there, we board the train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy train station. Our transfer awaits to escort you back to your hotel in Cusco.
